Tour in North India
18th to 24th of March 2012

Together with the retreat, we will do a tour in North India and Juaneeta is organising it. She wants to take you to North India because it is a cleaner and green part of India, with comfortable temperature, offering a possibility at the same time to encounter the spiritual and cultural dimensions of India together with the marvellous nature up there, near the Himalayas. Furthermore, all precautions are being taken to ensure safe eating and safe driving during the trip. Transport and all accommodation will be organised and included in the tour. You are all very welcome to share this unique experience.

The tour will be from the18th to 24th March. The cost of the tour is 500 Euro including accomodation and transport during the tour (which are all arranged) and even meals, snacks and drinking water. And we will have a guide and people to assist us throughout. It is a good opportunity for us to experience beautiful North India in a safe environment.

We will leave Rishikesh on the 17th evening and after the tour we can help you make arrangemenst to go back to Delhi, Rishikesh or to stay on in Himachal. We can also help you and organise transfer for you from the airport in New Delhi to North India to join the tour and if needed overnight stay and sight seeing in Delhi.


Description

We will go to Himachal Pradesh, known as the land of the Gods. It is marked by both Hindu and Buddhist history. It borders Tibet with a view over the eternal snow peaks of the Himalayas. Marked by its lush green valleys, cultivated terraces and alpine forest, majestic rivers and lakes it is a place of pristine natural beauty.
There are many temples dedicated to Hindu gods, namely Lord Shiva ( who according to the legends was meditating on Mount Kailash in the Himalayas) and Tibetan monasteries that we will visit. We will visit McLeod Ganj in Dharamshala, the seat of the Dalai Lama and get more acquainted with the Tibetan culture and spiritual practices.

We will go to Manali where we can enjoy the most beautiful & picturesque part of the Himachal Pradesh. There we will see the Vashisht village, just outside Manali, across the river Beas, known for its hot sulphur springs whose water, said to have curative properties and if possible see the Rohtang Pass 3978 meters high, which for centuries was the gateway to the trading routes that led to Lhe, Ladakh and Central Asia.

We will also go to Mandi, famous for its many old stone temples and where great sages are said to have meditated. Thento  Rewalsar Lake,famous for its floating islands. It is believed that they can be moved by prayer! This lake is also associated with the great teacher and tantric Padmasambhava, who largely influenced Buddhism in Tibet.

There will also be possibility for small trekking tours and you will also have free leisure time to move around, shop etc. There will also be small meditations.

The whole trip is not just about sightseeing but also to encounter deeper aspects of the hindu and Buddhist culture, while being surrounded by the marvellous nature of Himachal Pradesh.

We will also try to visit a nature reserve on the way to see some animals


It is a well arranged tour. We will travel to Chandigarh, the best-planned city of India, designed by renowned French architect Le Corbuiser. And will have comfortable transport during the whole trip. Everything will be well arranged and we will have our own cook.

Proposed basic itinerary

Day 1 – Chandigarh
Day 2 - Dharamsala. We will see the Dalai Lama if possible. We will take a walk around his temple and residence and explore Mc Leod Ganj
Day 3 - Dharamsala, and a walk to the nearby Bhagsu waterfall
Day 4 - Bir , we will attend a puja at the local momnastery. We will walk to Sherabling monastery with a 3-storey high gold and jewel encrusted Buddha, this is a famous monastery. We will stay in a centre situated amongst beautiful green tea fields and which grows its own products-to add.
Day 5 - Bir  and a walk to the look-out point of Ahju Fort with panoramic views of the surrounding hills and mountains. This is a great natural place and a wonderful walk
Day 6 - Manali, including the 500 year old Hadamba temple, visit to Vashisht natural hot springs for a bath in the temple. We will stop in Mandi en route.
Day 7 - Manali, and a walk around the local villages, meeting the local village people and visiting ancient temples.
